CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol, a plant compound extracted from hemp (cannabis). Hemp is considered one of the oldest agricultural crops on earth. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not psychoactive (i.e., intoxicating) but has a calming, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, muscle easing effect.
Dogs, like humans, have special receptors in immune cells, the brain and the central nervous system on which cannabinoids can bind. Together, these receptors form the endocannabinoid system.
The active ingredients in CBD oil activate two central nerve receptors in particular: CB1 and CB2. Activation of these receptors is associated with a number of benefits.
Accordingly, many veterinarians and dog owners alike have begun to use cannabidiol to treat a variety of ailments, including anxiety, nervousness, joint inflammation (as a result of arthritis, for example), epilepsy and even cancer.
Taking CBD oil, however, can be very beneficial even without an acute health problem; it increases vitality, stamina and energy levels, strengthens the immune system and supports digestive and metabolic processes.

As is the case with many serious and chronic conditions, and as is the norm in naturopathic medicine, you will not necessarily see an improvement in your dog’s condition immediately.
CBD treatment requires continuity and patience. The dog may feel pain relief within a few hours, but symptoms of inflammation and the like will take at least a few days to significantly improve.
It is important that the CBD oil is administered regularly; only then can it produce the targeted effect.
